Background
"FLK1 is also called VEGFR2, CD309. Three cell membrane receptor tyrosine kinases, Flt (also designated VEGF-R1) (1-3), Flk-1 (also designated VEGF-R2) (4-6) and Flt-4, putatively involved in the growth of endothelial cells, are characterized by the presence of seven immunoglobulin-like sequences in their extracellular domain. FLK1 is a main mediator of VEGF-induced endothelial proliferation, survival, migration, tubular morphogenesis and sprouting. The signalling and trafficking of this receptor are regulated by multiple factors, including Rab GTPase, P2Y purine nucleotide receptor, integrin alphaVbeta3, T-cell protein tyrosine phosphatase, etc.. Mutations of this gene are implicated in infantile capillary hemangiomas."
