Antigen Preparation
A synthetic peptide of human Claudin 5
Background
"Claudin 5 is a member of the claudin family. Claudins are integral membrane proteins and components of tight junction strands. Tight junction strands serve as a physical barrier to prevent solutes and water from passing freely through the paracellular space between epithelial or endothelial cell sheets. Mutations in this gene have been found in patients with velocardiofacial syndrome. CLDN5 affects lncRNAs acting as ceRNA dynamics contributing to regulating blood brain barrier permeability in tumor brain metastasis. Among other tissues, Claudin-5 was observed to localize to cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells, and a subset of fibroblasts in non-failing human heart sections. It is transcriptionally downregulated resulting in dramatically reduced protein levels in human heart failure. It was recently shown that strong claudin 5 expression is a poor prognostic sign in pancreatic adenocarcinoma"
