A recombinant protein of human CD34
Background
"CD34, a single chain transmembrane cell surface glycoprotein, is expressed on human lymphoid and myeloid hematopoietic progenitor cells. However, CD34 is now also established as a marker of several other nonhematopoietic cell types, including vascular endothelial progenitors and embryonic fibroblasts. Accumulating evidence demonstrates CD34 expression on several other cell types, including multipotent mesenchymal stromal cells (MSC), interstitial dendritic cells, and epithelial progenitors. Staining for CD34 has been used to measure angiogenesis, which reportedly predicts tumor recurrence. It functions as a cell-cell adhesion factor and mediates lymphocytes homing through binding to L-selectin and E-selectin ligand. Clinically, it is associated with the selection and enrichment of hematopoietic stem cells for bone marrow transplants.
The protein may play a role in the attachment of stem cells to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or to stromal cells"
