Antigen Preparation
A synthetic peptide from C-term of human uroplakin-3 protein
Background
"Uroplakin-3 is a member of the uroplakin family, a group of transmembrane proteins that form complexes on the apical surface of the bladder epithelium. Urothelium is built with dimensional, asymmetric plaques, whose specific structure is crucial for tightness and elasticity of urothelium. Integral components of these plaques are uroplakins (UP). Several isoforms of UP are known in humans: UP1a, UP1b, UP2, UP3a, UP3b, and UP3c. Biased expression of UP3 was shown in prostate, urinary bladder and other tissues. Mutations in this gene may be associated with renal adysplasia. The urinary UPK3A levels are uniformly elevated in bladder cancer patients than in those of normal volunteers and patients with benign urological disorders. High expression level of preoperative serum Uroplakin III is associated with biologically aggressive bladder cancer."
