Antigen Preparation
A synthetic peptide corresponding to the C-terminus of CK19
Background
"Keratins are the intermediate filament (IF)-formating proteins of epithelial cells. The total number of mammalian keratins has increased to 54, including 28 type I and 26 type II keratins. Cytokeratin-10 (CK-10) is one member of the type I (acidic) subfamily of low molecular weight keratins. It expressed in all suprabasal layers of the epidermis. In the epidermis, expression of CK-10 strictly parallels the extent of differentiation; it is absent in the basal layer, appeared in the first suprabasal layers and increased in concentration towards the granular layer. Keratins are extensively used as diagnostic tumor markers, as epithelial malignancies largely maintain the specific keratin patterns associated with their respective cells of origin. Expression of CK-10 is related to maturation of malignant keratinocytes, and it is detected in more-differentiated portion. "
