Antigen Preparation
"A synthetic peptide corresponding to the 1140-1165aa of Fibulin-2 protein. This sequence is identical to mouse, human and rat"
Background
"Fibulin-2, a 1221 amino acids protein containing 26-residue signal peptide, is an extracellular matrix protein expressed by normal epithelia. Study by immunofluorescence localizations using mouse tissue, Fibulin-2 was extracellular localized in basement membrane and other connective tissue compartments. By Immunohistochemistry, Fibulin-2 was expressed in fibrobasts but not in several tumor cell lines. In the serum level of fibulin-2 is 1,000-fold lower than that of fibulin-1. Fibulin-2 was found to be down-regulated in several breast cancer cell lines as well as the decreased expression in breast cancer tissue samples. Re-introduction of Fibulin-2 into breast cancer cell lines that do not express Fibulin-2 reduced cancer cell motility and invasion in vitro but had no effect on cell growth and adhesion properties. Together with evidence that Fibulin-2 contributes to wound healing and inhibits smooth muscle cell migration. The loss of Fibulin-2 expression may facilitate migration and invasion in breast cancer."
