Antigen Preparation
A synthetic peptide corresponding to internal sequence of human CD4 protein
Background
"CD4, a single-pass type I transmembrane glycoprotein, is found on a T cell subset (helper/inducer) representing 45% of peripheral blood lymphocytes. It is also present on 80% of thymocytes and at a lower level on monocytes. It is an accessory protein for MHC class-II antigen/T-cell receptor interaction, and may regulate T-cell activation, induce the aggregation of lipid rafts. Upon HIV-1 binding to the cell membrane, CD4 interacts with HIV-1 envelope polyprotein gp160 and protein Vpu with presence of HIV-1 gp120. "
